General Requirements

  • USDA Growing Zone: 3-10

  • Light: Full Sun (6-8+ hours of direct sunlight, daily)

  • Soil: Well-draining

  • Water: Consistent moisture.

  • Fertilizer: Compost/liquid fertilizer/ every 1-2 weeks

Quick Planting Notes

  • Be sure to plant the right onion type for your zone: short-day (latitudes of 25–35°), long-day (latitudes of 37-47°), intermediate/day-neutral (latitudes of 32–42°).

  • San Marzano tomatoes are an indeterminate variety which benefits from tall trellising. Substitute San Marzano tomatoes with Roma tomato if trellising is limited as Roma tomatoes are a determinate (“bushy”) tomato variety.

  • French Marigolds are used to repel harmful insect pests. They are also edible.

  • Use fewer garlic cloves per square foot for larger bulbs.
